Volunteering

GRACE wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for the many folks who have volunteered to do everything from preparing and painting our new building, moving furniture, making copies, filing documents, assisting with bookkeeping, and maintaining the web site.  Even if you have only a few hours to spare on the weekends, we could use your help!  We are especially in need of volunteers who can come by on a regular basis during the day. We also need of volunteers in the following areas:
*Accounting and bookkeeping, especially experience with QuickBooks for Non-Profits;
*Carpentry, especially experience with old houses;
*operating a BobKat, even a small one, to grade the soil around our house;
And, ALWAYS general typing, filing, phone answering, cleaning and yard work.

What GRACE Needs:

We all know that electronic equipment is expensive.  As our staff writes motions, communicates with team members by email, and keeps tracks of cases, we depend heavily on our computers.  We are in need of funds to help us upgrade our computer equipment and a few other items around the office. 

Computers.  While not all of our computers look like this, many of them run exteremely slowly, and some are about to stop working completely.  We  could use several desktop units and a new laptop for our director.  ($500 - $1000). 

Server.  Our computer server is running out of hard disk space and will soon be outdated.  We depend heavily on it to store all our electronic files.  ($1,200)

High Volume Scanner.  Our document system is an intergral part of our defense, and heavily dependent on scanning and reviewing documents.  We currently use a multifunction fax/scanner ($1,000)

Tape Drive to Backup our Files.  We currently back up our files onto a portable hard drive, which is time consuming and in-efficient.  A tape drive can back up all our essential files quickly and automatically.  ($500). 

Teleconferencing phone.  We have frequent conference calls, especially with some of our staff living in other cities.  Using the our current phone system, staff members calling in have difficulty hearing the conversation.   ($300)

Office car.  Our car gets a lot of use.  Staff and interns drive it all over Texas interviewing witnesses and visiting clients.  We could use funds to repair it, or if you’ve got a used car in relatively good shape that you are looking to get rid of, you can make a tax-deductible donation to GRACE.
